I received my first bird, a budgie, at the age of 5, and also had a pet dog and from then on, I grew up with birds and dogs, however, I do love ALL animals.

In my early adult years, I volunteered at a parrot rescue assisting with feeding, cage cleaning, and working with individual birds on behaviour training.  I can recall how rewarding it was when a parrot was adopted into a forever loving home.

I will always be grateful for those years as it gave me more insight and knowledge towards the love and respect companion parrots deserve.

I refer to myself, as do friends, as a "birder", meaning my passion is birds, loving them, respecting them and understanding them in ALL aspects of their needs and wants.  I actually believe I have a spiritual connection to my African Grey Timneh, Alexandra.

I also belong to a local bird club where I am a member in good standing and each month I will take along one of my fids (feathered kids) in order that s/he will continue to be socialized.
